Majulah Singapura

Turns out I'm here for the 50th anniversary year of Singapore's independence - what a momentous event to experience!

It continues to amaze me what the Singaporeans have been able to create in just 50 short years. Doesn't this just take your breath away? (Okay not the best photo I've taken)

Apparently 20% of  the current Singapore is built on "reclaimed" land, meaning filled-in ocean. So the gorgeous Marina Bay area is newly built on what used to be ocean just 30 years ago. It must be an architect/city planner's paradise!!

They were probably like Hmmm... let's build three concave luxury hotels and put a giant boat on top to connect them. Let's put an infinity pool on it too. In its backyard let's make these giant tree-shaped structures and plant real vines and have them slowly grow up to fill the whole "supertree". Ooh let's have these trees light up at night! Let's have them change colors and twinkle along to music and have people be able to walk amongst them on sky walks! We can charge them each 5 bucks to walk on it or something, that'll even out the cost! Hey let's put a bar at the top of one of these trees! Hey why not put gardens full of special regional plants around it? You get the point.  I can go on forever. It was breathtaking.

The laser music show at the promenade, set in front of the beautifully developed Singapore skyline was an awe inspiring cherry on top.

On our last day there we were lucky to see their national parade rehearsals - air force jets flying in formation through skyscrapers, fireworks, hordes of excited Singaporeans - all super exciting to be a part of. Happy 50th, Singapore!

Oh oh and I can't forget to mention - CAT CAFE is a thing in Singapore! Cee (new friend I made on the walking tours), Erica, and I paid $13 for an hour of cat-pleasing and an apple juice. Have to say, cats are not my thing. But so glad I got to experience it!

Last but not least, our wonderful Chimesmaster friend Ivana got married!!! Congratulations!!! It was great to see some fellow '13 chimesmasters too! :)

Okay time to make an entry about food. Which will be the most exciting blog entry you'll ever read.
